I finally took Kailee to her first play - Matilda.  I was nervous because I was not sure if she'll stay put while watching.  Good thing, I was able to bring my two nieces - who are veterans in watching plays.  We were just in time.  I honestly forgot that I enjoyed watching plays.  So when Matilda started, I had this nostalgic feeling like I was a child again watching my first play.  

The set was beautifully made.  I forgot how good the set designers are with making the props.  The lighting too was wonderful and the oh sooooo perfect sound system of a theater.  It really brought me back to when I was a lot younger.  

Every single actor on stage was amazing.  The kids most especially since they memorized all the lines and the songs and performed live!  Kailee was so engrossed and concentrated on what was happening on stage.  Kailee usually asks sooo many questions when we watch a movie in a movie theater, but this time - well, she was quiet and was observing.   I kept on glancing her way to see if she was bored - but she wasn't, she was very interested.

After watching, she told me that the kids were amazing.  I asked if she wanted to see another play and she said yes with her eyes beaming with happiness.

I have been an Uber user since 2014.  Has it just been 3 years?  Well, I felt it was longer to be honest - why?  Because I don't usually commute here in the country.  I drive a car and I like driving - even if its traffic.

I took my first ride last 2014.  I even documented it on this post - My first Uber ride.  I racked up credits from that first Uber ride and when it ran out, I still preferred and used Uber ALL THE TIME.  I need to emphasize that I am an Uber user.  I love Uber.  I love how convenient it is.  I don't need to drive, I don't need to worry about having an empty gas tank while stuck in traffic.  I don't need to stress myself thinking of where to park and a whole lot more.  It's so convenient really.

At first, I thought - what was Uber's end game?  I really didn't understand the concept to be honest - it was for me just an app I could use to transport me to places.  At first, it didn't dawn on me the conveniences that I had been experiencing.  I took the convenience for granted.  When Uber was suspended months ago - it was only then that I appreciated what Uber really was to me.

Last year when we came back from a trip, we were not picked up by the driver because of miscommunication on the time.  We were worried because we had luggages, big luggages, we had two kids in tow - and my Panget initially thought to just hire a taxi right there and then.  I told him no - I told him, I'd try and book an Uber.  We were very lucky because I was able to book us an Uber Black - successfully.  And you know what else?  Well, I left my phone on that Uber ride.  And guess what - I got my phone back the next day.  And I posted this on my blog too - The goodness of an Uber Driver because I was so proud and happy.  THIS IS WHY I UBER.

Uber has been my partner in transport since 2014 and I am with them ALL THE WAY.  I will support them and help them in anyway I can because I believe in their vision.

I have to be very honest.  I have not heard of the brand Jeunesse Anion (a line of feminine pads).  I see it a few times on my FB feed and assumed it was imported.  My friend Kaye swears by this brand.  She even bought a box huge box of it.  He daughter Kyla is also a huge fan of the brand.  I honestly wanted to try it out, unfortunately it isn't available in my favorite grocery store.
A few months ago, I was sent a few packs to try.  I was really curious.  I felt though, that one time use might not be enough to be able to feel the difference.  I was honestly pessimistic, I assumed I needed a few months at the very least.  The timing was perfect since it was that time of the month.

So I tried it, and I really really liked it.

Being pessimistic on the *trial* period was beneficial pala, I did not have any expectations on the brand and so I started on a clean slate.  I was very much impressed with the Jeunesse feminine pad to be honest.  I felt the difference almost immediately.  You see, when I have my period I already know the the cycle of what will happen.  But when I started using Jeunesse Anion feminine pads, the *cycle* that I was already used to, changed drastically.

My usual cycle was like this:
Day 1 - very light flow
Day 2 - heavy flow
Day 3 - heavy flow
Day 4 - slightly heavy flow

I would be feeling really bloated, sluggish and coupled with cramping here and there.  I would be changing pads often because of the very heavy flow.  For the past months - when I would go out I would bring an extra set of clothes (+ undies) because I was afraid of having those unfortunate incidences.  I would usually turn down events when it was that time of the month because of my very heavy period.

A habit too was that before I sleep, I would lay out an additional layer of protection on my bed.  I would put those bubble sheets (the ones used for babies) on my side of the bed to avoid staining the bed sheet and mattress because of my very heavy flow.  I would do this every night until my period stopped.

But after trying Jeunuesse Anion pads my cycle drastically shifted to the better.  I honestly did not expect it to change that fast or even at all.  I mean, diba?  One time use, really?  But seriously - it really did.

My cycle for that *trial* period was:
Day 1 - light flow
Day 2 - very heavy flow
Day 3 - light to medium flow
Day 4 - very light flow to spotting

I felt the change almost immediately.  I wasn't as sluggish, in fact I was on the move.  I was not worried of an overflow so I did not feel the need to bring extra clothes - I did bring extra pads.  I felt more normal, no cramping and I didn't feel irritable.  I was actually in a very positive mood!  I made sure to notice what I felt since I was using the Jeunesse pads and I'm very happy with the results.  I really do think that the Anion strip really made a difference.  Placebo you'd say, but you know what - I felt better, I didn't feel like I needed to slow down during my period.

So what is the Anion strip?  Below is the picture of what the Anion strip looks like:

See that green strip?  Well, all the feminine pads had that Anion strip on them.  The anion strips emit negatively-charged molecules.  These negatively charges molecules help maintain freshness and protection, it also helps ease menstrual discomfort.

One thing I observed, was that whenever I went to the bathroom, I would feel the heavy flow of period gush through.  I never experience anything like that before with my old pads.  And it felt really nice as I feel that the gush was *properly* eliminated.  I would change the pads often too but the pads, I noticed were not as full compared to the other brands that I used before.  I really felt more clean and fresh.

Because I tried it, I'm now a believer of the brand.

I honestly forgot what it was like to use a non-wing  (ever since having used *wings* in the past) but with Jeunesse Anion, I like using the non-wing variant.  I actually preferred it over the non-wing, weird ba?  I felt really protected already.  Haha!  I think that's the most important thing, that we have the option to use non-wing or wing.  I assumed that all napkins had wings nowadays.  Hihi..  I was wrong!

The packaging is really nice too as its RESEALABLE.  Yes, you read that right - resealable!  When I saw the pack I was wondering on how to open it.  The pack was sealed shut without any perforation for easy opening.  Then I noticed something on the side of the package - I discovered, it was a sticker of sort that you peel to open and then it sticks back on to close and protect the whole pack.  Brilliant right?

I am now a believer of Jeunesse Anion napkins.

Something I've done before and something I felt was easy to do.  But you know what - it's just in my mind.  It was stuck for the past 6 years.  I've tried, but failed.  I was always hungry.  There was always a reason - I was breastfeeding, I was traveling, I don't have energy - endless reasons really.

About two years ago, I tried walking 10,000 steps a day.  Did it work?  Well, kinda - but very little.  I guess, I looked better but then after my brother's wedding - I kinda let myself go.  Hahaha!  I ate and ate and forgot about the 10,000 steps.  The following year, Kailee started going to ICA and since I was on the bring her to school duty - I had to sleep early.  So bye bye the race to having 10,000 steps at night time.

Early this year, I thought about it - I decided that I wanted to try dieting again.  But nothing, I still did nothing.  I needed a push.  I've been doing the Military Diet on and off - but I kind of forget to control every so often.  The fact that I'm 37 says that my body is so very different when I was in my 20s.  When I was still single and didn't have a care in the world, less responsibilities compared to now that I have kids, a husband and a household to take care of.  Things are different now, totally different.

A wonderful surprise came by a few months ago.  Fitness Gourmet contacted me and asked if I wanted to try out their calorie counted delivered meals.  I immediately said yes.  Wala ng isip isip.  It was now or never.  I was excited and scared and nervous and happy.  So many different emotions rolled into one.  Hahaha!

So I started my calorie counted meals.  I asked to have the 1,200 calories set.  I knew it will be a shock to my system.  But I had to work through the shock.  I was told that if I wanted to increase the calorie intake, they're willing to change it, even midway through the week, I'll just need to inform them ahead to time - like 2 days ahead.  But I stuck through the 1,200 calories.  Bahala na si Batman

Week 1
My first #FitnessGourmet meal was a breakfast sandwich.  Of all breakfasts - it had to be a sandwich.  My heart did a little dive when I saw what was inside the sandwich - it was all veggies.  All veggies.  I was scared.  But you know what - it smelled really good.  And so I bit into it.  There was no turning back.  On the first bite -  well, I'm glad that it was love at first bite.  It tasted really good.  I thought to myself - do not judge unless I've taken the first bite.  Hahaha!  It was really good, I said to myself that if I had meals like that, 300 calories and very tasty - then it would be a start of a great journey.

The first week was a real test.  I was hungry most of the time and there was a time that I was contemplating on increasing the calorie meal na.  But I stuck through it.  I ate skyflakes when I felt hungry and munched on peanuts!  Major tiis talaga...

My brother told me that after Week 1, the rest of the weeks will be a breeze.  I was honestly scared, scared that I might feel winded or get headaches.  There were no headaches.  I don't recall feeling winded.  What I remember though was being low energy and a bit weak.  At 5pm, I was sluggish and tired.  When I get home, I immediately go up to my room and lie on the the bed.  I felt really really tired.  I don't recall feeling this way in a long long time.  I guess having 1200 calories a day made me feel tired easily.  I won't even guess how much calories I was taking in before!  Let's not go there anymore.  Hahaha..  To give you an idea on my day, here is my usual schedule:

5:30am Wake up and bring my daughter to school
8:00am I get to the office and have my breafkast
10:30am I leave to pick up my soon in school
12:00pm I get home and have lunch
1:30pm I get back to the office
3:30pm I have the afternoon snack
5:30pm I go home and rest
6:30pm I have my dinner and rest afterward

At 7:30pm I have this hunger pang - when I do, I eat a couple of roasted nuts or skyflakes.
At 8:40pm I usually feel sleepy already

For the first week there were two nights that I ate a pack of Skyflakes.  I drank LOTS of water to feel full, but the feeling is quite different.  I knew that I needed to get used to this.  I didn't want to cheat, YET.  Hahaha!!

What I specifically remember on my first week I was really short tempered.  Hahaha!  I would snap on the smallest things.  I was very irritable with Kailee and Connor, especially when they were  noisy and fighting - I was HANGRY.  As in literally hungry + angry.  Hahaha!!  I was so excited to finish the week off and have my overnight oats.  BUt you know what, the next morning - I had this urge to control.  I felt guilty that I was going to cheat.  I still had self control.  Something good right?

I was so nervous on the Saturday of Week 1.  I had to weigh myself.  I was looking at the scale for a long time and didn't want to weigh myself.  I think I waited for about a minute or two.  Then I finally stepped on the scale.  I was soooo happy to see that I lost 5 lbs!  I was happy but in disbelief - I'm sure all of you who are trying to lose weight would understand.  I stepped on the scale at least 5 more times, just to see it the scale was really correct.  And it was - 5lbs down!  Woohoo!  I felt really proud of myself.  I said to myself - if I power through the program for 3 more weeks, I would really be losing weight.  I was excited and happy.

I was told that I could eat normally on the weekends - and I did.  I was a bit conscious on the portion of what I was eating.  I was so happy to be able to drink milk again and have some other food!  Weekend eating was good and controlled - I was excited to start Week 2.

Week 2
Week 2 came by fast.  I was not as irritable (but still short fused, hahaha!), I still experienced hunger pangs.  The meals were still very good and tasty.  I would look forward to heating and eating the meals.  I would often check IG for the menu and was just happy and excited with the meals delivered.  It was such a refreshing thing pala to have the food delivered to you and all you needed to do is heat it up and eat.  I didn't feel guilty when I finished the meals!  Hahaha.   When I felt hungry I would just munch on roasted nuts (I didn't take Skyflakes anymore) and would drink lots of water.  I confess that in the middle of the week - I cheated and ate 1/2 a burger.  I thought to myself - its was okay, as long as I made up for it on the next meal - and I did.  I fasted the next meal!  Haha..  I felt guilty.

When Saturday Week 2 came - I was nervous for the weigh in because of the that I ate mid week.  I took the plunge and weighed myself - I lost 5 lbs.  I couldn't believe it!  I cheated yet, I lost another 5 lbs.  I was on a roll, it was such an effortless weight loss program.  I was not exercising, I was just eating calorie counted meals!  I was amazed and impressed, most of all I was with excitement that I lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks!  AMAZING, right?  I was on a high and told myself that this was the jump start that I was searching for.  I'm glad that #FitnessGourmet found me, I am so very thankful!

Week 3
I was very excited for Week 3 because in my mind, I assumed - I can still lose another 5 lbs that week.  I made sure not to cheat.  My friends were inviting me to have breakfast or lunch, but I had to decline - I said that I can go BUT I would just *be with them* and just have my calorie counted meal.  Sayang diba?  They felt guilty and told me that once I was off the diet, we'd meet up for a meal.  I was lucky to have supportive friends.  I was lucky too that my Panget was cooperative, but he was always asking to look at my food and then giving me a smirk afterward.  I think Kailee felt bad for me because she was telling my mom that *Mommy is so wawa* with regards to my meals.  And she would always ask if I was okay after I ate my meals.  Hahaha!  Yaya B also felt the same, she would always tell me how many days it will be until Saturday.  Connor would always be excited for me on Saturday morning.  Hahaha!  I'm glad that I have a supportive family.  Or else, I think I would be going crazy!  Hungry, Angry and Crazy.  Hahaha!!

I think my system was already adjusted to the calorie counted meals that I had.  I was less hungry.  I actually started to skip a few of my afternoon snack!  Hihi..  Can you believe that?  I was skipping meals!   I was so proud of myself!  Hahaha..  In my head, I can live by consuming less than 1,200 calories a day.

But I would later regret skipping the snacks, because when I weighed in on Saturday Week 3 - I only lost 1 lb - one measely pound.  I was disheartened, but then I said to myself - 11 lbs in 3 weeks was already an achievement.  I had to accept it.  I figured, this was such a good opportunity to lose the weight.  I wouldn't even lost any pound had I not started this journey with #FitnessGourmet.  I had to count my blessings, right?  And count I did.

Week 4
This was the last stretch, my 4th and final week.  I would be happy to lose any amount at this point because I have maintained losing 11 lbs for the past three weeks.  But I headed into trouble as later on my 4th week, well - I had to leave for Hong Kong.  On my last day on the #MakeItFit Challenge, I had to leave.  I was worried to be honest, because in HK, I'm sure to do a LOT of walking as we were going to a convention/exhibit. On the plane, I made sure to order ahead - a fruit platter.  I was surprised at my decision to be honest.

It's a good thing that my calorie counted meals arrive at night, usually after dinner time.  So for the trip, we left really early and I was able to have my breakfast on the way to the airport.  Mind you, I HAND CARRIED MY LUNCH AND DINNER in an insulated bag.  Yes, I was that serious.  I wanted to do it.  My Panget was shaking his head when he was holding the bag for me.

We arrived around lunch time and knowing that we'd be walking sooooo much that afternoon, I decided to cheat for lunch.  I knew that my walking would for sure burn the calories I was taking in.  I kept my Fitness Gourmet meals in the room's refrigerator while I munched on Delicious Kitchen's fried pork chop with rice.  I was so surprised at how controlled I was.  I only ate half the pork chop and a few spoons of the rice.  On a *normal* day - I would finish them all and would still be ready to eat other food.  Hahaha!  Self control - that was something new.  Portion control - that is really really new to me.  My Panget was so surprised at the amount of rice left on the bowl and he even said *Yan lang kakainin mo?* And I felt full despite the half pork chop and few spoonfuls of rice.  I was prepared and ready for the walk.  And walk I did.  I clocked 22,365 steps on my Fitbit that day.  According to my Fitbit app, I burned 2,802 calories, walked 21 floors or 9.03 miles.  Not bad right?

On Saturday Week 4 - I was nervous again when I asked housekeeping for a weighing scale.  My good friend K asked me what it the scale was not *in tune*?  I didn't know what to answer. Hahahaha!!  I bravely stepped on the scale and saw that I lost 2 lbs.  Yes, just 2 lbs on Week 4.  But you know what - I've lost a total of 13 lbs in 4 weeks.  That's such an achievement for me!  Especially when I struggled to lose weight for years.  And this was just in a span of 4 weeks, 4 freaking weeks!

I was very very happy with the 13 lbs lost during the 4 week course.  I was satisfied and contented.  I would have wanted to lose more but I'm happy to take this 13 lbs anytime.

It was only when I took a before and after picture of myself did I see how very *round* I was..
I'm still round, but at least not as round as I was before!  Hahaha...

So what did I think about Fitness Gourmet?

Well for one, the food delivered was on time all the time.  During the first week, delivery was made in the morning, while the succeeding weeks were made the night before.  It was packed neatly in a plastic bag with the plastic containers labelled properly.  I found it very convenient because I can just get the corresponding container and heat it up in the microwave.

The food was tasty and good.  The menu was very interesting, and went together very well.  I feel that the menu was well thought off.  It wasn't like they just decided to make any dish just to fill the 1,200 calories.  They actually made sure that the taste of the food the whole day would go well with the other food.  There was significant balance in the menu's taste and selection.  I found that really impressive.  I was very happy that they seldom served salad, on the days that they did - the salad dressing made all the difference.  I found the portioning of the food, very good too.  It felt really konti when you look at it but when you start eating, you'd realize that the portion was just right.  Most of the first two weeks, I would really judge the portion, but every time after I eat it - I would be filled, not full but filled.  Sakto lang.

If you want to jumpstart your weight loss, please please do consider ordering from Fitness Gourmet.  I have to be honest, without Fitness Gourmet's calorie counted meals - I wouldn't have lost any weight at all.  Zero, as in really zero.  Fitness Gourmet has helped me watch the portion of that I eat.  Fotness Gourmet made me believe in myself again - when it came to portion control.  I realized at the end of the journey that - it is POSSIBLE.  Kaya naman pala.

Another app you say.

Well, it's 100% Pinoy.  One of the things that is attractive to it is that it's made by Filipinos for the Filipino.  You may say, it's just another app.  Well, it is another app.  Another choice for us Pinoys who ride share.

You ask, what's so great about the app?  Well for me, the best thing is that it has an SOS function for both the rider and the partner.  With one touch of a button - your latest ping location will be sent to the nearest PNP station and they will and can be of help to you.

Another plus is that it only gets 10% commission from the partners as opposed to the 25% commission that Uber and Grab get from their partners.

Another, another plus?  You don't need to have data service to get a U-Go transport.  You can just send a text message to book a ride.  Convenient right?

Yes, it's ride sharing for EVERY JUAN!

Can't wait to see it launch fully in the next few months!

Doughnut Montana Mini, my new travel bag!

I haven't worn a backpack since 2003.  Yep!  The last time I wore one and had one (that I used frequently) was while I was studying in Beijing.  I remember it like it was yesterday - it was merlot color.  I had to ask my friend Kath, what merlot was - wine pala.  I carried it everyday to school.  While I walked, biked and etc.  I think I even brought it to trips outside of Beijing.  It was so convenient.

Fast forward to 14 years later - I saw my friend Tin's post on her Doughtnut Montana Mini backpack and I got curious.  I thought to myself - how convenient!  Then I saw the videos on Doughnut Philippines ' Facebook page - they were really REALLY interesting.  This made me decide to get one.  But it took a long while before I purchased one.  I asked Tin first on the size, she said the Mini was perfect, but I was afraid it might be too small for me.  So, I still had to check it out myself.  I was only able to do so a few months ago when I was in Glorietta for an event - I saw it, and scrutinized it, I then decided - the Montana Mini was good enough size for me.

During the holiday, I decided to bring it along - to test it.  As you all know, I am a creature of habit, I make sure to bring a sling or messenger bag with me on all trips.  Others will bring a two or three bags.  I just stick to one.  And for the longest time, I stuck with my Longchamp - but during the last few trips - it has given us delayed and cancelled flights.  I decided, I needed a change of bag.  Hahaha!  I'm superstitious that way.  So when my Panget got me a new bag that was black and made of canvas, well - that became my everyday bag AND travel bag.

When we got settled in at our Airbnb apartment, I immediately took out the backpack and switched my bag to the Doughtnut Montana Mini.  I was amazed that my things took a small space in the bag!  I couldn't help but show it to my Panget the kids and Yaya B!  I was so amazed, and then when I carried it around my back - the straps were not falling off.  I didn't need to continuously pull them back to my shoulders.  I then thought, sige nga - let's really test it the whole trip.

The next day, we were set to go to Yokohama.  So I packed my backpack with my sunglasses, my Tiger stainless steel bottle and all my travel essentials (ziplocks, eco bags, tissue, medicines, inhaler scissors, rosary, lipbalms, rheumasalve, lotion, etc.), power bank, charging cables, my *notes* for the trip.  Look - it still had a LOT of room!  I was able to put inside my scarf!  There's also a small zipper on the side that I forgot was there (for easy access to the contents)!

The truest test of the bag was when it was raining in Tokyo.  I went to hear Mass and was carrying a small umbrella.  I honestly forgot about my backpack for a while I was walking because I was just shielding my head and body from the rain - that I forgot that I had a backpack on.  So when I was inside the Church, I felt sad that my bag was wet!  But look at it, it's not seeping wet - considering I walked for 5 minutes under the rain.

The rains had no plans of stopping that Sunday - so we decided to just carry one umbrella per person.  Travelling with a stroller on a rainy day was going to be disastrous.  So, I was stuck with a small umbrella.  When we got home that night, my bag was not super drenched, it was wet alright but the contents of my bag were all DRY!  I honestly didn't notice it, until I realized we were walking under the rain most of the day - I was sure that some things inside my bag would be wet from the rain - but there was not a single thing inside the bag that was wet.  Everything, I mean EVERYTHING was dry.  Amazing!!

So I decided to just use my Doughtnut Montana Mini backpack the whole trip.  I was so impressed that my black canvas messenger bag just stayed at home for 7 days.  Hahaha!!  Here I am with the backpack, while doing what else - EAT!


Japan is a really safe place.  I've been visiting the country for the past 4 years, so a backpack is really convenient.  I just had my backpack in front because I needed to take money out to buy those food on the streets like this white strawberries and because I wanted to take lots of pics (but I didn't get to because I was too busy eating!  Hahaha...)

Now that I'm back - I can't seem to switch back to my reliable canvass messenger bag.  Hahaha!! I am sooooo loving my Doughtnut Montana Mini backpack!

Just to be clear, here are just a few things that I LOVED about my Doughnut Montana Mini backpack:

1.  It's small but definitely NOT terrible.  It may look small, but it's soooo very roomy!  You can put a LOT of stuff and believe me when I say, a LOT of stuff!  The pockets are genius and perfect.  I don't need a bag organizer anymore!

2.  It's lightweight, I mean really light weight for it's quality.  You can fill it up to the brim but it won't feel heavy on your shoulders nor will it feel bulky.

3.  It's water repellant and it doesn't get the stuff inside wet.  I walked in rain most of the say in Tokyo and my bag was exposed and so it got really wet, but the contents were ALL DRY!  Drying the bag is a breeze too!  Imagine, cold weather - but it dried up!

4.  The shoulder straps don't slide off your shoulders.  Never experienced a time where I needed to constantly push the straps back to my shoulders.

5.  The zipper on the side.  It's soooo convenient and easy to reach!

6.  It can stand a beating.  Well, I used it for travel for a week and when use, I mean use it.  It carried my Tiger Stainless Steel bottle, sunglasses and a lot more.  I was squished in Disneyland and the trains in Tokyo but it still maintained it shape.

7.  It can stand upright without help.  As long as you organize your stuff that is!  Hahaha..

8.  The colors are soooo cute!  There are colors to choose from.  I was tempted to get the light pink, but decided on the light blue because, I love blue!!
