Shopping in Guam

Thursday, August 28, 2008

While walking around K-Mart - I was asking myself - did I need anything? Nothing popped! Hahaha.. Until I realized - that I was in a US territory, meaning most American goods that I always ask my Panget's brother to buy MUST be here somewhere. Right there and then, things I wanted started to come of my head! I searched for the following items first:

- Caladryl Clear
- Creme Bleach
- Carmex
- Vick's Vapor Rub (Made in Mexico - my Aunt, specified this!)
- Efferdent Denture Cleansers (my Aunt's)
- Pepcid AC Maximum Strength
- Lip Balms
- DIY Highlights Kit
- Pentel RSVP Pen Set
- Secret Deodorant in Vanilla
- And some other unique stuffs! Hahaha...

So, did I get all of them? Hahaha! I did - except for the Carmex - apparently, the K-Mart Guam does not carry Carmex! Hmmm.. Strange, but what can I do right?

Let the pictures do the talking...

Shopping in Guam can be C.R.A.Z.Y. !! Think about this - a street that has 2 LV stores, 2 Gucci stores, 2 Bottega Venneta stores, 2 Prada stores, 2 Coach stores, and a whole lot more! The Guam Premium Outlet also makes people insane because it has storesNine West, Nike, Famous Footwear, Payless Shoes and who does not love ROSS?! Still not impressed? How about a 24-Hour K-Mart and 24-Hour Payless Supermarket?! It doesn't get any better than that! Shopping in Guam is a riot - they have most everything you need and want!! :)

ROSS is the BEST place to look for a good bargain! I went there, on a freaking Sunday - scoured the good with both tourists and locals! Held on to items I liked, protected them and sometimes hid the items out of sight! Hahaha.. Imagine what it was like when Mango was on sale (Zara and other brands were not yet in the picture) - not put a houseware area, men's area, kid's area, shoes area, accessories and bag's area and women's area! All in one roof! Imagine the number of racks! Hahaha!! This was actually my first time to see an actual Ross. I survived! Thank goodness!! It was like shopping mayhem! Hahaha...

To be continued..

I am officially here in Guam!!

Got in at dawn! Gosh! But in fairness - immigration people - CHEERY and laughing with us! Even telling us stories! Ain't that weird? I mean - never have I met an immigration office who was smiley, cheery and volunteers information! He was really really nice! First impression - friendly and cheery!! Cool huh?! I still can't believe they're cheery - to think that the time an odd hour!! Hahaha... 1 point - Guam!!

Upon exiting the customs - my brother and I found a really funny display cases of.... BONGS! I'll have to upload when I get back - it was really funny!! Hahaha.. Good thing the customs officer was nice enough to allow us to take a picture of it! Hahahaha.. 2 points - Guam!

I have read some bad reviews on our supposed hotel - but since we already booked - there was no turning back. I remember clearly, asking Esther (the person I was emailing at the Grand Plaza Hotel) if I should call them first when I get to the airport so they can pick us up. She did not confirm anything - BUT she sent me an email that the driver will be waiting for me at the gate - he will be holidng up a sign with my name on it. So of course, I expected that when I exited the customs area - I will be reading my name! There was NO singage with my name. NONE! And when I called the hotel to ask - Aki, the receptionist told me that she was waiting for my call! I was irritated - but gosh, she did not even apologize for the delay - instead was rude! I was not finished talking to her - when she cut me off! RUDENESS, to the highest highest levels!! Argh.. What saved this rudeness? The driver was a very friendly Filipino! He was volunteering information on the island and telling stories etc. He was really nice. When we got to the hotel - there was no apologies! And when I told her that it was rude to put down the phone when someone's still talking - she answered me with 'Because I had to call ther driver!' The NERVE right? I told her 'hey, you can say goodbye to me first and then call the driver!' She looked at me with a blank face. For this rudeness - I give Guam - -2 points! hahahaha..

So, what do I think of Guam so far? Honestly? It's like I'm in a 'mock' US city. I don't see white people walking around - mostly Korean, Japanese and Filipinos! Hahaha.. It's like Subic Bay but with a LOT of shopping areas - take note, brand name stores like LV, Gucci, Fendi, Prada, Coach, Macy's and etc.

That's for now.. hahahahaha

I'm off now!! Be back in a bit!!

Rick Astley Live in Manila

Saturday, August 02, 2008

I never thought I'd be watching.

I actually got the idea from Spanx. He was the one who started it all (in my opinion!).

And now that he's here.. Well..

It was actually my Panget who was pestering me all day yesterday to watch the concert. Being an 80's kid - I knew most of the songs - but my Panget, knows ALL of his songs. He even has ALL of them in his iPod! Hahaha..

He was sending me corney (but cute) messages all day using lines and titles of Rick Astley songs. By then time we finished work - he decided to purchase 2 Upper B tickets, he was really keen on watching. I was shocked. But our good grace came in the form of a text message sent by a friend to my mom. It was really unexpected. The text read 'Ma'am - I have 2 tickets for you tonight'. My mom and I wondered what kind of tickets - the reply said 'It's compli (compliemtary) Ma'am'. I was jubilant - but I think my Panget was more jubilant than I was when I told him of the great news!

We got to the Araneta just in time - the show started late. The front act was a band from Bacolod - and I couldn't help but laugh when they sang the first song. We built this Sit-teh, we built this sit-teh on rock and roll! Hahahahaha...

I was able to capture in video the whole Kuya Dick singing and dancing with Kuya Rick 'Never Gonna Give You Up' number. But I'm somehow having a hard time uploading it on Youtube (anyone care to help me??)

So for the meantime, I hope the pictures will suffice!

My favorite song in the whole concert was 'Cry for Help' but the best part of the concert? Well, of course - the Kuya Dick and Kuya Rick number. As Rick said 'It doesn't get any better than this!'

I had such a blast singing with my Panget and dancing too!!
Spotted a couple of celebrities, former flames of friends and friends too! Hihi..

Well, it was worth the wait - it was such great show! I wish he could sing all the songs again for another time! I really found it cute that he wears glasses now.. :)
