My Havaianas Broke!! Again..

Thursday, December 21, 2006

Again, my havaianas broke! The strap broke off again! My first ever Havaianas' strap broke just last year (May 2005 to be exact). So this is the second time it happend to me. I'm beginning to think that these flip flops don't last long. I bought this paticular pair July of this year. And it's not as if I always use it - I alternate it with my other pairs. So why did it break off? I have no freaking idea! I wish I harrased it and used it every single day - just to justify the strap breaking off.

After this entry, I will again, write to Havaianas Philippines to complain.

Damn Havaianas!

Don't they just look lovely?

Don't they look lovely??

Got this pic from

Jonathan Matti

Who are you? (Since you hassled me and were kinda rude and 'finicky' your name deserves to be on my blog..)

Have you heard of him? Well, I haven't and last week was the first time I heard his name. He needed a mega white carpet (his staff Aida even doubting the color named Bleached White, I sent him the picture thru email yet, there was doubt - we're not color blinds you know..) installed at his model unit at the Two Serendra - and yesterday, we did install it - despite a lot of setbacks like the room still being painted and with a lot of stuffs), and now that I am following up the payment - naku! Kinda lang ah, pahirapan... When I called, a guy named Paolo answered my call - and I could hear a guy shouting in the background - the suddenly the phone went dead! Nabagsakan pa ako ng telepono. Then when I called again, high and mighty Mr. Matti answered the phone, at first he was pleasant and then he barged me with 'I heard you were rude to my staff!' Me rude? I asked how and he said that I kept on following up the payment - well, of course Sir, the job has been done - in lightning speed!! Since you required everything to be done FAST - we also expect for you to pay on time! Was I rude? I think not - it was his staff who PROMISED to pay even before installing! So was I rude? I wish I were rude (just to justify the accusation) - and maybe I should have! I think rude was what happened to me - nabagsakan ako ng phone diba?

All I can say is - BAHALA NA SI LORD SAYO!! :) God Bless you! :)

I just needed to say that...

Tsk.. Tsk...

A person should not be cocky - even if he's famous (or so he would like to think) - tsk.. tsk..

Krispy Kreme on my mind..(and tummy!)

Friday, December 15, 2006

Last night, my Panget hand delivered a box of 1 dozen Krispy Kreme. Apparently, he had time to go and buy some for me. Thanks Panget!

When I got the box, I immediately sampled one - my god - it tasted delicious! All I could utter was 'S*&^ ang saraaaaaaap!' even my mom became curious and tried one. She said that it was good, soft but very very sweet. I love sweets! Except of course, chocolates (yikes.., I don't like them at all!)

Here's an image of the lone Krispy Kreme left from the loot my Panget gave me

I ate 2 1/2 pieces last night. Had 2 pieces for dinner. Had 1 piece right before lunch and now, I just finished my merienda piece.

Total count - 6 pieces (gosh, that's half of the loot already!)

I don't even want to count the calories anymore! Good thing, I'll be attending Bikram Yoga later.. Hehehehe... :)

This is one of the new shoes that I am kind of into right now. At first I was hesitant to watch the first few episodes for fear the I would get hooked. Since my Panget went on a road trip last week, and there were 3 days with no work - I decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, we only had 3 episodes of the show. So I had to make a schedule on what show to watch at what time, so that I wouldn't get bitin. I made it a point to just watch 1 episode a day. Yes, unbelievably - I was able to control my urges!

Now, it's already Monday - and just a few minutes ago - I saw the 6th episode.

The first 5 episodes were okay - I was on my toes watching them, but on the 6th episode, I got kinda bored - I don't know why?! But I found some parts boring. Maybe I was looking for more 'action' and answers too. For those who've been keeping an eye on this series, can you clarify some things for me? Kindly highlight to see the questions, WARNING - SPOILERS (for those who have not seen the series):

1. What is Niki's power? Does DL have a superpower too?
2. Does Isaac have to be high to be able to draw the future?
3. Who is Sylar (which actor?)
4. Since Nathan and Peter have super powers - does it mean that their Dad had it too (and caused his depression and eventual suicide?)
5. Is Mohinder part of the super power group or will he just remain like his father? The reference?
6. What's the power of the black guy who's always with Claire's dad?

Petty questions, huh!?

Haha.. :)

BTW - I can't get enough of Grey's Anatomy!! Argh.....

I need your prayers..

We're currently going through some tough patches right now..

May I ask for your prayers? :)

I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.. :)

Quite back to sqare one..

Last night, I attended my regular Yoga class. What made it different was that it was my first Yoga class in 5 days. Yes, I was on a break - I got caught up on some stuffs thus, I decided to take a break. It was kinda hard, but not as hard as I expected it to be. I thought that I would be struggling all throughout the 90-minute session, but good thing - I only struggled on some parts.

It felt really good, to go back to practicing Bikram Yoga. I think Bikram Yoga has grown on me - my body looks for it, I don't get tamad to attend a class. This is a good thing, I just hope I can continue on with this for the years to come. I say years because finally, I have found an exercise that I like. I like the heat (is this me?!) I like tha pace, I like the stretcing, I like the sweating (again, is this me talking?!)

Try it for a change!!

James Bond & Daniel Craig: Casino Royale

Monday, November 27, 2006

Bond, James Bond. This line has been so familiar to us, it transcends generations and years - everyone knows James Bond. I've never been a fan of the James Bond franchise, it was my Panget who's a big fan. I remember fondly, while studying in Beijing - my friends and I had our weekly DVD shopping spree, and suddenly I found a complete set of the James Bond films - from Sean Connery, to Roger Moore, to Timothy Dalton, to Pierce Brosnan (did I miss anyone?) They had all the titles, what's worse was - they were being sold - irritatingly cheap! I was reluctant at first to purchase the whole thing, so I sent my Panget text message asking if he would like the whole set - as you may have guessed - he did. And so I proceeded and purchased the whole set. I don't remember the exact number of titles - but it was plenty! When I got back from Beijing - the first DVD that we watched together was a Sean Connery - James Bond flick. I kept on laughing because there were no sound effects, the action sequence was hilarious and it was obvious that James Bond wasn't hitting as hard! The names of the female cast were out of this world!! It was just then that I realized that Austin Powers saga was the comedy version of the original James Bond flicks. I must give thanks to the whole James Bond phenomena - well, he made me love and appreciate Austin Powers even more! Yeah baby!

I first saw Daniel Craig in Munich. He was really good there, and while watching - I couldn't believe he would be the next Bond. Somehow seeing him in bell bottoms didn't really help my imagination. But I swore to give him the benefit, that he would be able to portray the character well. He was picked out of so many candidates (I was partial to Clive Owen - but he doesn't look polished enough to be James Bond). He must posses something for the people behind the Bond franchise pick him, he must be good.

A few weeks before the actual showing in our local cinemas - my brother already told me that the movie has been getting good reviews. Apparently, Daniel Craig is bagay to be James Bond. Then on the week that it was showed, my brother confirmed to me that indeed - he was the perfect choice. This good review made me super eager to watch it. And the only time that my Panget and I had, was last Friday night. I was so excited to finally have the chance to watch it and since there has been a Poker craze for the past year - the movie became more interesting.

The first few minutes of the movie impressed me TOTALLY, I love black and white scenes! But what impressed me more was the action sequence, the action scene choreographer must be very very good! To be able to pull off such a stunt - wow! As the movie progresses, I saw more and more that Daniel Craig fit the character to a T! Again, I wouldn't have imagined any other actor to play James Bond. Even if he's blond - he reprises the role perfectly. I think the writers were able to humanize him more compared to his predecessors, not that they're not human, but Daniel Craig's portrayal is more realistic. This same trait is why I like watching Alias. The heroes of the show/movie can still have their asses kicked despite their being equipped and familiar with all the self-defense tactics. There's this scene that I loved - it was in the bathroom, just right after killing the black dudes - when he was comforting Vesper - I loved the way he showed his emotions. It was a simple gesture but the attack was really good. I'm such a sucker for these kinds of scenes... Hahahaha...

I loved this film so much, that I can still watch it again and again. There's just something with the new James Bond that I can't get enough of. I really really like him. I think this is the first Bond film to catch my fancy. The movie poster makes my knees weak - and I don't know why. There's just something, whatever it is, the most important thing is that - the franchise has another satisfied customer who will drool over the new Bond guy. And that is me.. :)

BTW - the theme song is also super!! :) Can't you see that I was literally SOLD on the film? I was bowled over. Literally.

My cousin's wedding

Last Saturday, was my cousin's wedding. She was the first one in the family to get married! And so I think everyone was excited. We were never actually close, but we had a connection, maybe because we went to Beijing together, and because of that - there was a bond formed. I can't explain it but she's someone I really treasure. Her presence was the one that kept me sane during the one semester I spent in Beijing. If I felt homesick - I'll just send her a text message and when she'd reply - I felt better.

I was surprised that she included me in her bridal entourage, but at the same time I was happy that I was going to be part of it! Since she was the first in the family to get married, it was the first time in years that I was part of a relative's bridal entourage. The story of me finding out that I was part of it was kind of funny. The designer, who is the groom's sister and I also became friends because of Beijing, we bumped into one another in Manila Penn, a few weeks after my cousin's engagement party - she told me to come to her shop so they can get my measurements. I asked her why and she replied that I was part of the entourage. I argued that I wasn't! Because in the first place - I wasn't told that I was part of it! We argued for about 2 minutes, she said that she saw my name listed on the paper with the whole entourage, then she finally told me to just go to her shop because she had a meeting at that time. And so I waited for my cousin's text - I didn't want to pre-empt anything. My cousin finally texted me, a few hours later that I was indeed part of the entourage. Hehehe...

Yesterday, I was at their Makati Shangri-La suite at 11:00am, I joined them for the hair and make-up. My cousin vouched and said that her make-up artist Madge Lejano was really good and what's better was that the stays until before the reception for re-touch. I always thought that make-up artists would just do their thing and go running off to the next one. Madge is really nice - she helps out in every way she can, which is perfect right? She stays behind, watches the wedding ceremony, stands by just in case she is needed, she waits until her bride leaves the church premises and goes to wherever she is needed. Her team is also magnificent! Her hair stylist A - is goooooood!! He does magic, he did something to my hair - he's really good! :) To my surprise the aircon inside Sanctuario de San Antonio was really cold! I don't think there was anyone who sweat during the whole ceremony!! I remember when I was young, I used to go to Church at on Sundays when I slept over my ama/grandmother's house. It looked to big and grande! Then just last year, when I attended my Panget's brother's wedding - the place looked smaller, but just as grande. The ceremony was beautiful because the officiating priest is someone close to the couple. The Homily was really nice, it was short but really meaningful. I say this because the last wedding I attended - the priest was singing his heart out in with every phrase he could associate a song to!

Congrats dear cousin and dearest cousin-in-law!:)

Whatta Thursday!!

Yesterday was an event filled day, I witnessed a burning luxury van in Murphy Cubao, went to look at the Corelle sale at Eastwood, check out The Block in SM North Edsa, shopped in a hurry in Gateway Mall in Cubao, literally walked through Aurora Boulevard in Cubao, ate delicious steak at New Manila, had my pedicure in Posh Nails, and finally had foot massage at Footloose in Tomas Morato.

All these I did from 2:00 in the afternoon till about 11:45 in the evening.

Let's a have an actual run down, shall we?

I left the office at around 2:00pm to accompany my mom to the Corelle and Pyrex sale at Eastwood in Libis. On the way there, near Camp Aguinaldo - we were met by heavy traffic. The driver told us that there was a fire somewhere because he could see black smoke. The weird thing was that it looked like it was coming from the street and not inside the camp! When we got closer - we saw that it was a luxury van, the ones like celebrities used! It was burning like crazy and dark black smoke and red orange flames can me seen. People, who were curious went on ahead to take a look. Because of the van burning - we were forced to take a turn in some street, we circled and circled until we reached Katipunan Avenue - thank goodness! Then we went on ahead to Eastwood City. We found it quite weird that the sale was on the 7th Floor of the Cybermall building. Upon stepping foot on the 7th Floor - there were signs that led to the sale itself. The office space looked awkward - it was an empty office space that was not even fixed. There were no tiles on the floor, and one of the pipes had a leak! Nevertheless, it didn't stop us from looking at the sale. We were disappointed again, as usual! The items that we saw now, were the same items that we saw a few months back - they were still on sale! Sigh - disappointed once again, but we bought extra measuring cups - because they were on sale and a set of bowls - because my mom had this thing with white bowls! Hehe..

We then went on to check out The Block - the newest annex of SM City North Edsa. I was looking for champagne colored shoes for my cousin's wedding - since the mall was suggested by the sister of my Panget - we went there to take a look. The mall was quite big and impressive because of the vast spaces right smack in the middle of the mall. It looked like I was in a mall of some Asian country! But as we went up the floors - the set-up was quite weird! The shops' location were not as accessible, you had to go around the mall (literally because of the floor plan) and circle it to see the shops. I was thinking - what were the vast open empty spaces for? Maybe for events? Oh well, I was already getting lost! As I searched for shoe stores, I couldn't find any that caught my fancy! Why is it that whenever you are searching for something - it always is not around or available? I decided to go to the main mall to look at the local shoe stores, maybe I can find a pair that I liked. First stop was Celine. As I entered, I searched and searched for the formal shoe rack - and when I did, I looked at the display racks from the bottom up - then as I reached eye-level, a sparkly sandal caught my eye. I immediately grabbed it, showed it to my mom and tried it on then BOOM! It looked fantastic on my feet! Finally! I found the shoe! Take note that, the search was done in less than an hour! When I asked for my size, the saleslady was kind of dilly dallying - for whatever reason - I don't really know, when she gave me the pair with my size - there were blue ballpen marks on the shoe! It was damaged! Argh!! When I asked the manager to look for a store near the area which carried my size, she apologized and told me that branches have different style stocks! I asked her again, nicely if she could help me look for a pair - and she did. She found pairs available in Megamall and in Gateway. Since Gateway Mall in Cubao was the nearest to where I was - I had it reserved.

On the way home, my mom asked me when I was going to get the shoes. I told her tomorrow (which is today) because I was already kind of tamad to go and get it. She then told me that my aunt (whose daughter is getting married tomorrow) is borrowing the driver, thus - I had to get the shoe asap. I sent a text message to my Panget and told him that I was going to Gateway Mall. He happened to reply and say that he was in the office and offered to bring me home after buying my shoe in Gateway. So I took his offer, I dropped off my mom at home and on I went to GAteway. I left the house at about past 5:00pm and zoomed to Gateway - on the way there, I fell asleep! The next thing I knew, I was already on Aurora Boulevard turning right to get to Gateway! I looked at my phone for the time and it was nearing 6:00pm. Knowing that my Panget is in a bad mood and that he gets off work at 6:00pm - I took my time (hehe...) I went on to Celine to get my shoe, and I did - in under 5 minutes! Fast huh?! Well, I'm that kind of a shopper - if I see something I like I get it immediately, but this happens very rarely - as I am kinda tamad to go shopping - I have my moods. After Celine, I proceeded to Beauty Bar to purchase Foot Petals for my new shoes - unfortunately, it was out of stock!! Argh.. After this, I then decided to go to my Panget's office. First, I had to figure out which roads I will walk through to get to his office.

His office is located in Aurora Boulevard, right in the heart of Cubao. Great, I remember watching on TV (Probe Team to be exact) when I was little that Cubao had a lot of darkness to it. There were the dark cinemas that stunk when you enter it because of some suspicious actions (I will never forget the phrase - masangsang ang amoy na sasalubong sayo), there were numerous clubs and a whole lot more. Nevetheless, I walked through Aurora Boulevard in a slow pace, appreciating the simple pleasures of walking since I didn't attend my Yoga class - it wasn't so bad! The only stinky thing about it was that there was pollution everywhere! Smoke Belching galore! Man, was it tough! It was blowing right into my face! Grr... I'm a law abiding citizen when it comes to crossing the street, and so I picked my spot and waited, and waited and waited until the police guy signaled for me to cross the street - before that I observed people were having their death wish- they were crossing from all sorts of directions, popping everywhere! With cars zooming passed them!! Yikes!

As I reached my Panget's office building - well, I had to wait at the employee entrance and stand guard until the people behind the counter had their approval to let me up. And when they did - my Panget was nowhere to be found! Argh.. I had to stand near the door and wait, I had a feeling he was in the bathroom, and a few minutes later - there he was with a cute frown on his face. I was already informed beforehand that he was having a bad day, okay - so we waited. We then went on to go to house A to pick up some laundry of his and then after proceeded to attend his younger brother's steak party. When we got there, his sis-in-law looked kinda harrased and since she was pregnant I just had to offer a helping hand - I kinda understand what she was going through - it was a good thing that her mood was light, she didn't have her usual headaches and she was in a good mood - the baby was cooperating - Yey!! :) She served us with steak - it tasted delicious- juicy, soft, and just perfect!! I had to control my portions as I will be attending my cousin's wedding tomorrow.. In the end, the friends of my Panget's brother enjoyed the steak dinner. We did too!! If not for the waiting for the steak to defrost, we would have stayed a while and had seconds - but my impatient Panget decided otherwise and waned to have his nails done - I was of course, happy to oblige!! :)

Then off we went to Posh Nails. I've never been a fan of this establishment, the receptionist was always outside chatting away with some person, their staff was not as good - but hey, they were open until 10:00pm. We had to wait for 15 minutes because the nail technicians still had to finish what they were doing. I was lucky enough to get Bel as my technician, she had soft hands and was very maalaga. She massaged my feet and kept on asking if there was something painful (nice diba?) After putting on the nyde color on my toes - she suggested that I get a foot massage next time because I had so many lamig on my left sole. This gave my Panget an idea - he wanted to have foot massage. Seeing as it was only 10:30pm - he claimed it was still early. And so off we went to search for a place to get a decent foot massage. We ended up in Footloose on Tomas Morato, we got here by accident because my Panget was thinking of this place while I was referring to another place nearby. But since we were already there, we gave it a try. And the verdict? It was great! It's been so long since I last had a foot massage! My tired feet felt rejuvinized - I love the kneading action on my left sole. It felt so good!! Really really good. We finished at 11:30pm and as we exited the establishment, I was telling my Panget that it was night of pampering - pampering of the stomach (steak) and pampering of the feet (pedicures and foot massage) My Panget enjoyed it very much, that he hinted on having another go at this same routine (sans my walking in Cubao) next week.

What a way to start the weekend and end the weekday.. I think this is the looooongest entry I've ever written. Imagine if I told you this story - my mouth would be very very dry now - I may need to have a sip of water. Hehe.. :)

Have a great weekend guys!!

30-Day Challenge: Completed!

Monday, November 20, 2006

Last Saturday afternoon, I complete the 30-Day Challenge of Bikram Yoga Manila. FINALLY!! I've done it! Yehaaa!!! :) To celebrate my feat, I decided to take the Sunday off yoga, the bad thing was - my body was looking for it! I woke up in time for the 9:30am class but I told myself to go back to sleep, I tried but failed.

So, what did the 30-Day Challenge do to me:
1) I get better sleep! Even if it's less that 8 hours, I still wake up each day with a smile! Every morning, it seems like I find myself more cheerful and each day seems so sun shiney to me!

2) I can eat more and not gain weight! Although I have not lost any weight - it's the inches I think, because my clothes definitely fit better. My Yoga buddies tell me that my body is more toned. Maybe if I give it more time - I just might lose the unwanted pounds, but what the heck, it's the inches that more important! :)

3) I have no lower back pain at all! Bikram Yoga worked magic to my lowerback pain. I've had it since I forgot when and it's more painful when I have my period - and now - bye bye pain!

4) I've become more flexible - yes, this has been proven because from Day1 - I couldn't get my forehead to the floor - and now I can!

5) I'm more at peace (I think..) and a little more patient with everything else. The breathing really really helps..

6) So many new friends! Cristina, Jeanne and her mom Auntie Margie, Lorrie, Maan, Jenny, Tita Joy and Tita Anne, Auntie Cynthia and Auntie Annie, Anna, Bernie, Cris, Miguel, Auntie Rose and her daughter Candice, Stephanie and a whole lot more!! I just have to mention the wonderful staff of the QC studio - Tristan, Al, Alex and Gemel (did I get the spelling right?).

So, do I take another 30-Day Challenge? Maybe next year, now I will just continue my practice and take it one day at a time. But to be honest, my body looks for Yoga. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

Bikram Yoga is definitely THE best exercise for me. I don't get bored doing the 26 postures because everyday is a different day, it will never be the same. You get to work out all your body parts and sweat like crazy in just 90 minutes. Amazing huh?!

Yoga in the morning..

Thursday, November 16, 2006

I just got back from my Bikram Yoga session. I needed to catch up because I took the 30-Day Challenge. Since there were 2 holidays (November 1 &2) plus another day because I got sick - I need to take 3 double days to make-up for lost time.

Today was my first time to take the 8:30am class, since it was first thing in the morning - I didn't know what to expect. I knew for a fact that my body will still be stiff - but what the heck - I needed to do it. I was also told by Tristan that the hottest class were the morning classes - good thing the weather was quite gloomy - Nakikisama ang panahon sa akin.

I reached the studio at about 8:15am, as I signed up for class I noticed that there were already about 6 people who's already signed up ahead of me! Most were women, there was only 1 guy who was with us. As I entered the locker room to deposit my things - I saw familiar faces, most were mothers - they had already brought their kids to school and this was their only free time. I admire these mothers, despite their busy schedule - they still had time for themselves. WOW right? I always thought that if and when I do get married - I'd be juggling a lot of things, a lot of responsibilities which means less time for myself, but these women are just inspiring. It only proves that if you will yourself, you can do it!

I was right about my body being stiff - it was super stiff! Bones were cracking everywhere! I couldn't stretch out to my normal limit - I was pissed! Thus I tried harder - the result? More sweat! Hahaha.. My friends will be shocked to learn that I am putting myself to a sweat fest every single day, as they all know that I hate to sweat! I really do, but Bikram Yoga is an exception. This is 'the' only exercise that I am so willing to do. (I am subjecting myself to Bikram's torture for 26 straight days!!)

I'm back in the office now - and later this afternoon - I will be back again at the studio. An addict? Well, I took the challenge! I have to do it and I WANT to do it. :)

I feel so rejuvinated! It seems like a lot of adrenalin has been pumped into my system. What a great way to start my day!! :)

Cupcakes: Attempt #1

Monday, November 13, 2006

I have been craving for cupcakes since I last visited Cupcakes by Sonja after Market Man's eyeball. Christine suggested that I make my own concoction to suffice my craving - a good idea? - Brilliant! And so I searched the information super highway for recipes for a good cupcake. I searched and searched till it dawned on me that I was looking for the wrong kind of recipe. Since I was craving for Sonja's cupcakes - why not try and search for the Magnolia Bakery's original recipe! When I hit the search button - the results were alarming! There were numerous sites that were giving away the recipe, the famous bakery even had it's own cookbook for sale in Amazon!

Thus - I copied 2 recipes. Both recipes asked for self-rising flour, what in the world is that and where will I find such? I sent an SMS to my good friend Jen and my Panget's sister-in-law. They both told me to make my own self-rising flour, since the recipe called for 1-1/2 cups self-rising flour I just needed to add 2-1/4 teaspon of baking powder and 3/4 teaspoon of salt.

I started measuring for the ingredients after eating lunch. It was just then that I found out that I was missing an ingredient! I thought I had baking powder on hand - but it turned out to be baking soda! I had to ask the driver to buy me baking powder! Thank goodness the driver was there!!

Yesterday was also the first time that I used my brand new Kitchen Aid mixer (thanks to my Panget's brother and sis-in-law - they bought and brought this home for me from the US, they got it for such a good price!) That mixer is so incredible! When before, I slaved with a handheld mixer - now I can just stand aside and look in the mixer while it blends all the ingredients perfectly. What a time and energy saver!! :)

I followed the recipe to a T. And the result - well, I was disappointed. There was defintely something wrong with the cupcake (but I couldn't figure it out!), it smelled and tasted too egg-y (for me), the frosting was too sweet too! My Panget on the otherhand was satisfied - but commented on the sweetness and that he wanted a cupcake with a more bite to it. I made another mistake - I know most bakers will make me sabunot for this - I put the frosting too early, while it hasn't been totally cooled yet - I have my reasons! My Panget was pressuring me to move faster! (he saw and watched me bake, for the first time.. Hehehe :) But seriously - I was too excited to tasted the whole thing. Next time, next attempt - I'll make sure it'll turn out to be better than this. I'll have to figure out a way to make the icing less sweet.

The Magnolia Bakery Cupcake Recipe
1-1/2 cups Self-Rising Flour
1-1/2 cups All-Purpose Flour
1 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
2 cups Sugar
4 large Eggs, at room temparature
1 cup Milk
1 teaspon Vanilla Extract

- Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees
- Line two 12-cup muffin tins with cupcake papers
- In a small bowl, combine the flours. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, on the medium speed of an electric mixer, cream the butter until smooth. Add the sugar gradually and beat until fluffy, about 3 minutes. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add the dry ingredients in three parts, alternating with the milk and vanila. With each addition, beat until the ingredients are incorporated but do not overbeat. using a rubber spatula, scrape down the batter in the bowl to make sure the ingredients are well blended. Carefully spoon the batter unto the cupcake liners, filling them about three-quarters full. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a cake tester inserted in the center of the cupcake comes our clean.
- Cool the cupcakes in the tins for 15 minutes. Remove from the tins and cool completely on a wire rack before icing. At the bakery we ice the cupcakes with either Vanilla Buttercream or Chocolate Buttercream.

Icing: Vanilla Buttercream
1 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
6 to 8 cups Confectioners' Sugar
1/2 cup Milk
2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract

- Place the butter in a large mixing bowl. Add 4 cups of the sugar and then the milk and vanilla. On the medium speed of an electric mixer, beat until smooth and creamy, about 3-5 minutes. Gradually add the remaining sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition (about 2 minutes), until the icing is thick enough to be of good speading consistency. You may not need to add all of the sugar. If desired, add a few drops of coloring and mix thoroughly. Icing can be stored for up to 3 days in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

The cupcake recipe makes about 2 dozen cupcakes - depending on the size. I have about 5 more left - any takers? :) The vanilla frosting however is too much for 2 dozen cakes! I still have some stored in an airtight container (I used the Tostitos Salsa container)

Any advice on how to do it better on my next try? :)

Spaghetti with Clams

Thursday, November 09, 2006

Last night - was for the first time in years that I cooked my own pasta dinner. I have been so out of the cooking loop for a long loooong time now. And yesterday, when our fish/seafood man called to ask what we want to be delivered - I immediately thought of Clams/Halaan!

And when it was delivered - I was quite shocked to see that they were huge! I was so used to the small clams that were served in restaurants. Nevertheless - I had the whole to day to plan what I wanted to with the clams. Make it into soup or a pasta dish?

I searched the web for recipes - and I found 2 recipes from food tv. One's from Tyler Florence and the other was from Giada De Laurentiis. I couldn't decide which one I would use. I was looking at both of them the whole afternoon - tossing from one to the other.

It was just after my yoga practice that I decided to go with Giada's recipe. I figured - Tyler's was the better choice - but I've never tried anything from Giada - and so I gave her a chance. I was secretly hoping that it would turn out good. And so when I got home at about 8:30 in the evening - I was preparing everything fast. The househelp was nice enough to have chopped the onions and set aside some already chopped garlic (thanks to the Black and Decker Handy Chopper Plus) near the stove.

As I sauteed the onions and garlic, put in the clams and dry white wine - I was getting nervous that the clams were letting out too much water. As I put on the lid - I was praying that the sauce be enough, not too much and not too little! After a few minutes, I took off the lids and my suspicions were right - there was too much water. But the recipe said for me to add 2 tablespoons of diced unsalted butter, to thicken the sauce, and when I did - voila! The sauce thickened slightly. Yey! I then tossed in the al dente cooked spaghetti, a few seconds later - it was ready to eat.

Here is what it looked like last night, I know its messy but - I was HUNGRY!! And oh, and it tasted great by the way.. :)

Berries and Cream
Cupcakes by Sonja
Serendra, The Fort

Since we were at The Fort last Saturday night - my friend Jen, my Panget and I went on ahead and took a look at the Serendra. I've been there before - but during the day. I had lunch there with Gracie a few weeks ago (or was it already a month ago?) Jen and my Panget wanted to see the Cupcakes by Sonja store. Since they've been hearing so many things about it - might as well see what the fuss is all about right?

Good thing there weren't that many people. We were able to find parking instantly! We then headed down to the store. It was brightly lit - and full of people. Well, mainly because the store is not very big. When we entered the store, I immediately asked if they had Berries and Cream, this I was told was made of fresh strawberries, since I love strawberries - I had to give it a try. And so I did. I was lucky enough because they had only one piece left. Galing noh?!

When Sonja Ocampo handed me the cupcake - she told me that if she put it in a box - it might get ruined, better that I eat it immediately. The first thing I noticed was the slices of strawberries hidden underneath the icing. The cupcake smelled wonderful! Absolutely divine! It was too pretty to eat! Jen and my Panget told me to take a bite - but I hesitated at first, but when I did - it was wonderful. On the way home, I held on the cupcake - I didn't want to take another bite because it smelled delicious - but in the end, I had to eat it all.

One complaint though - the price is just too steep for a piece of cupcake. Imagine Php75.00 for a piece?

EDSA traffic - on a Saturday night en route to The Fort

Going out on a Saturday night may cause headaches - why? Well, simply because everybody in the Metro WANTS to be out. But nevertheless - my Panget, Jen and I weaved through EDSA just to get to Gourdo's at The Fort in time for dinner. It was a special occassion for Jen and I because FINALLY - we will be meeting Market Man. I have been a lurker of his blog and now I will be meeting him in the flesh, in the flesh! Most of you must be wondering - why I am excited at all?! Well, because in the local blog scene - Market Man is a celebrity, yes - he definitely is. I love his blog, I love his humor, I love reading his thoughts on just about anything.

On the information super highway, it is a rarity that one can put a face to a handle(nick name) because everyone remains anonymous (unless of course if you're friends with that certain person). This month - I am celebrating my blog anniversary - it was just last year that I started blogging. So, what a way to celebrate my blog anniversary month with the Market Man eyeball, right? Sweet!

I have never attended an eyeball - NEVER. I never had the reason and courage to do so anyway, but when I learned that Market Man was organizing one - I JUST HAD TO GO. It was a good thing that my good friend Jen, was just as game as I was! And so when we arrived at The Fort - Jenn and I were very excited, we were already looking forward to meeting fellow bloggers! (I just had to add that amidst the excitement, my Panget who is clueless on blogging was very supportive, mainly because he was looking forward to dinner and the dessert buffet! :) ) nearing Gourdo's we already spotted Joey, Katrina, and Anton. Joey and Katrina were already familiar to us because we had seen them at Lori of Dessert Comes First's Bakind demo, and as for Anton, well - I'm a big fan of his blog too! (Can you imagine how many lurkers/internet stalkers you have when you have a famous blog?!) Upon entering Gourdo's after registering - we were met by Market Man. Market Man in the flesh! Better - Market Man face-to-face, shaking our hands, welcoming us to the even and introducing us to The Kid and Mrs. Market Man. My my, here we are, finally - Finally!!

I had to contain my excitement, I just had to. I was looking around and secretly spying on the name tags thinking that maybe I know some of these people - unfortunately, I didn't. I was looking all over for cutie Aidan, then I saw Rache - I went up to her and introduced myself! One down! The next thing I knew was that people started falling in line at the buffet table - and so we did too! The first thing that we saw on the buffet table was the table FULL of desserts - what caught my fancy was the dessert labled 'Goodness Gracious Great Balls of Goo' - it had such a unique name and the balls looked interesting!! But dessert had to wait, as we still had to eat dinner. We were served with the anti-pasti, how I love bruschetta! I particualry like the mushroom with truffle oil - YUM!! Then on to the main course - both the pastas were great! I loved the fresh pasta more than the red sauced penne, but what I loved more were the pizzas! I am definitely a pizza person, I had to go back for seconds!! The pugod roasted pork was also good. After munching and chatting - it was dessert time! I am a self-confessed SLOW eater - I somehow tend to talk more rather than eat, thus - Jen and my Panget went on ahead to gather and sample the dessert buffet.

I know people will call me crazy and weird but - I absolutely HATE chocolates! You read it right - I do not fancy chocolates. It's something I never got to appreciate. I do like White Chocolates, but many will argue that it's not even 'real' chocolate. I don't even remember why I didn't like it in the first place, basta - I don't like it, period. My dislike for chocolates may be attributed to its color, but then again, maybe it's aroma, or it's taste? To make a negative become a positive, think of it this way - one less person who likes chocolates mean that one other person gets my share! Fair enough? Fair - well, because Jen and my Panget got my share! When they got back from the buffet table - all I could see was that everything on their plates had chocolates on them! Chocolate cakes, chocolate cupcakes, chocolate everything else! I was getting dismayed but still greatful because I saw that there was Peanut Butter Choco Chip Cookies (yes, I had to disect the cookie to rid it of the choco chips - I loved the consistency of the cookie!! Yum-meee!) There was this brazo de mercedes with crust - at first I hesistated but then - I got a small piece and boom - I fell in love with it. It tasted divine! To think that I am not a fan of Brazo de Mercedes! Then just before I left the buffet table - I saw it - Dulcelin's Mango Torte. My oh my - I had to get a piece for my Panget - he just adores this mango torte, and so I sliced a piece good enough for the both of us. When I got back to our table, the dessert plates of Jen and my Panget were almost empty - they told me in unison that EVERYTHING THEY GOT TASTED GREAT!! Such a compliment right? Definitely! I never heard anyone utter a negative criticism on the desserts! All I could hear was 'Ang Sarap!' 'Who brought this? I love it!' Nice huh!?

To end the evening - Market Man gave a few words and said thanks to everyone who attended. He even gave each of us a souvenir of his suman! The packaging was really nice - I was afraid to touch it! Since I fell in love with the Peanut Butter Choco Chip Cookies and the Goodness Gracious Great Balls of Goo - I had to bring some home - luckily when I got to the buffet table - they nice lady who made the cookies was there - she told the servers that she had to bring home the plate she brought together with the cookies. I immediately approached her and asked if I could bring some home, and you know what she said? 'Bring everything home! I'm glad you liked it!' and I took to heart what she said - unfortunately - I didn't bring any container, but there was this nice server (whose name I forgot, sorry!) who was nice enough to offer me a container! Thus - I packed 4 pieces home. Yey! The server then told me if I wanted to bring home some pasta - of course I did! The sis-in-law of my Panget is in her naglilihi stage - and her item of choice?! Pasta. While scooping some pasta - I accidentally turned to my left - lo and behold - I saw the name MILA on the nametag - I knew for sure that she was Mila Tan, but I had to ask to confirm - and she indeed was! And WOW - that's all I can say, WOW. Can you believe it? I just met Mila Tan of Watergirl.. It had to sink in first. Beside her was a guy named Jay-D, he was also a lurker - it was unfortunate that he didn't maintain a blog. Maybe now he will! I hope he will.. :)

After getting our baons, I headed up to Anton, Rache and Aidan - I had to give them my gifts. They're such lovely people - so fun and friendly! (I can't believe I spoke and met Anton!! hahaha..) When it was time for us to leave Jen and I just had to say goodbye to Market Man, we shook hands and he thanked us for coming. I just had to thank him one last time, because of this eyeball. What a successful eyeball! Market Man, Mrs. Market Man and The Kid were really gracious hosts! The 'perfect' hosts to the event. This is sure a first for me! I enjoyed it to bits! I'm now looking forward to attending the next one! (*hint*hint)

Excited, super duper excited!

Friday, November 03, 2006

I am super excited for tomorrow night's buffet dinner at Gourdo's! Finally, I will be meeting Market Man face-to-face. I have been a lurker of his blog for the past six months and I must say, I love his blog - I visit it almost everyday(actually, everyday..) - hoping that when I click on his link - I will be reading a new entry. At the same time, I will be able to put faces with the names of the other blogs that I frequent.

When I read that MM was entertaining thoughts of having a 2nd EB - I was delighted. I immediately sent an SMS to my good friend Jen (who I miss by the way...) asking her I she was game, to be honest - I don't think I need to ask! She was deinitely game. Great! The plan is now close to perect! One thing left to do - and that is to convince my Panget to attend with me. I had to think of something, something great and unique - to try convince him to come with me. Good thing, the EB asked for the attendees to bring desserts - a dessert buffet. And so I told my Panget that Jen and I are going to attend a 'dessert buffet' organized by Market Man. Of course, when my Panget hears the word dessert - it clouds his judgement, thus - the perfect time to invite/manipulate him! And I was successful! I couldn't believe it at first, but I was able to convince him to join Jen and I. Yipee!!

See you all tomorrow night!
I can't wait!!!!

Grey's Anatomy

Thursday, November 02, 2006

Finally! I've decided to watch this show. Finally!! I've been told a dozen times by different people that this show is gooooood. But I never got myself to watch this show - why? I don't really know. I've never been fascinated with medical dramas.

Anyhoo, the verdict? Well, I'm not as obsessed with it as I am with Lost or Prison Break - but, I LIKE it. I've been trying my best not to sleep on the wee hours just to finish the episodes, but looks like - I will be. It's not addicting but it's fascinating. Maybe I'm speaking too soon!

One thing I liked about the show is how they humanized the characters (duh?!) Doctors pala have emotions too. (I know?!) They're not just machines/robots (as I assume them to be) who react when given a stimuli. I was touched and naawa in a couple of episodes. The show brings a different flavor and taste to the table. Why not, diba?!

P.S. Meredith Grey looks so young! Unbelievable! I thought she was just in her 20's - but she's actually 37!!

The Prestige

Tuesday, October 31, 2006

Saw this last Sunday with my Panget, his brother and sis-in-law. I was told that this movie was great - that it had a lot of twist. My Panget's sister told us to listen intently - and so I did. I was quite confused on what event first transpired. It was like watching Memento all over again - there were a lot of flashbacks and it was a little confusing. The movie was going to and from the past to the present and vice versa. Maybe I expected too much..

I was quite shocked, impressed and found it funny when I saw that David Bowie was in the movie. The role fits him perfectly - but that's just me.

Addiction to....

I've been busy for the past few days (weeks actually) - I've been doing Bikram Yoga everyday, our internet connection as been on and off, work is kind of getting toxic and stressful - but I'm not complaining! I've no time to blog or even think! (feeling ko lang yan..)

My Panget has told me countless of times that since I started Yoga - it was all I could talk about. Well, of course! That is what I have been doing for the past weeks! I just took the 30-day challenge wherein I have to attend yoga for 30 straigt days - without fail. I've been successful and it's my 12th day today. And so far so good! I always thought that as the days progress, things will get easier - but the opposite is happening! I'm having a harder time balancing, holding my poses andmore! But at the same time, I've seen improvements in my flexibility - when before I couldn't get my forehead to the floor - now I can! Yipee!! It's such an acheivement for me! My clothes do fit better now (feeling ko lang) but I know it's too early to tell if I indeed lost weight.

I'm loving every minute of Bikram Yoga. I enjoy it very much! I think that somehow I've become more at peace with myself, I don't get to rush anything - things just flow the way they should (sans sudden emotional outbursts, hehehe..)

Here's to more of Bikram Yoga!! Cheers!

Alma Maters - matter?

Friday, October 20, 2006

When meeting people for this first time, one usually seeks the 6-degress of separation. We ask a lot of questions - throw in a lot of names - trying to attach one to the other - to connect the familiarity. For me, the first question I ask is 'Which school (HS or University) did you attend?' And then I ask for the batch. Am I weird? Well, I have this theory that whatever school you answer with that question - is 'the' school that you a proud of. As for me, when asked this question - I automatically say the name of my High School - the University I attended is just a secondary answer to the question (if there's a follow-up).

So - do Alma Maters, matter?

Bikram Yoga Part 2

Thursday, October 19, 2006

Yesterday afternoon, I attended my 2nd Bikram Yoga class. I went with my mom, I somehow convinced her to give it a try - since she saw how much I sweated(is there such a word?) lst Saturday. We came in time for the briefing for beginners - I pointed my mom to go to Tristan so she'll be briefed on what to expect.

Upon entering the studio proper, I already felt the heat - it was as if you entered a slightly heated oven. While I was positioning my and my mom's yoga mat - I was already sweating! Take note: I was merely fixing the yoga mats in place. When we started the breathing exercises - I was already sweating like crazy! And there was more sweat as the session progressed. The towel that was on my yoga mat was so wet! I couldn't believe it! The one infront of me was Patty Betita - the former model - she's still very pretty and sexy ah! You can see from her outfit that she was also sweating - her tank top was changing it's color! Yikes!

Since it was my second time - I was expecting the poses to become easier - unfortunately - I felt the opposite! It was harder to hold the poses! When last Saturday - I was able to balance and not fall on the other foot - this time - I kept falling! Damn! It seemed that I had to exert more effort in doing the poses. I also had to control my breathing - breathe in, belly rises, breathe out, belly drops.

I was checking out my mom from time to time to see how she was holding up. It seemed like she was doing okay. But at the end of the session, she told me she was struggling and felt like throwing up. She was constantly going back near the windows to breathe in cool air! 'Ang hirap! But grabe ang pawis!' That's the spirit mom! :) Yeah! It's a good thing she enjoyed yoga. Gooooood thing! It was a full body work-out, comparing it with going to the gym - you'll just be working out a certain area for the same number of minutes.

I honestly am super bilib with Yoga. I mean for just 90 minutes - you're sweating like crazy, plus you get to work out all your body parts!

I'll definitely comeback (of course!) - I'm tempted to take the 30-day challenge, but whats more challenging is the rate of it. Sana may discount! Sana..

October 24 - A Holiday!!

Monday, October 16, 2006

I just learned of this 'officially' last night. Another holiday, yipee!! But its in the middle of the week - oh well, at least Monday night - we can do whatever!! :) hahaha.. :)

Palace declares Oct. 24 as regular holiday in observance of Feast of Ramadhan

In order to bring to the fore of national consciousness the religious and cultural significance of the Eid’l Fitr, the Muslim Feast of Ramadhan, Malacanang has declared Tuesday, Oct. 24, as a regular holiday nationwide.

In Proclamation 1155 which Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita signed today, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo cited the need to promote cultural understanding and integration.

The declaration, Ermita said, would give the entire Filipino nation the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in the observance and celebration of Eid'l Fitr.

The main date for this year’s celebration of Ramadhan has been determined to fall on Oct. 24.

Republic Act No. 9177 declared Eid’l Fitr as a regular holiday throughout the country.

Ramadhan is celebrated by the Muslim world for three days after the end of the month of fasting.

My first BIKRAM YOGA session

Saturday, October 14, 2006

I officially tried YOGA this morning - and the verdict? I LIKED IT!! My gosh, I was sweating like crazy - and I feel like I've worked out my whole body! That's just in a 90 minutes sesson. I honesly did not expect to sweat that much! To think that the room was not heated (it is supposed to be heated, unfortuantely - BYM still had to wait for Meralco to give them sufficient power) Compared to running on the treadmill for 30 minutes and just sweating - with YOGA, I was working out various body parts at the same time! I couldn't stop raving about yoga to my mom - thus she might give it a try too! (Excuse the exclamation points..)

My arms are so sore, it was like I excersized with dumbells for a long time. But nevertheless, it feels great! (Can you beleive I'm saying this?) I still could not believe I was able to do some poses! Sure, I got off balanced a couple of time - but still! I was able to do most of the poses. I had a hard time 'holding' the poses but still, I was able to do it! Concentration is key. One should not be conscious of the people around the studio, but instead - FOCUS on doing the poses correctly.

I'm looking forward to another session, but this time - in a heated room. I can just imagine how many calories I'll be burning in a heated room. Yey!!

Congrats to me! Congrats to my friend Annie! Congrats to Bikram Yoga Manila - today is their opening day in Quezon City!! :)

Red Ribbon Bakeshop & thier Ensaymada: Rant and Rave

Thursday, October 12, 2006

Yesterday, my mom had this sudden ensaymada craving. Thus she called up Hizons in J.Bocobo Street to order a few pieces of their delicious ensaymada and mocha cake (yes!!). She then instructed our driver to pick it up. The yummy ensaymadas and mocha cake(micorwaved on High for 15 seconds) arrived during lunch time. Then, that afternoon, she had a meeting with her Church group, and her good friend Tita Mia gave her a Red Ribbon ensaymada by chance.

This morning as she was about to open the sealed ensaymada. She noticed that there was a dark spot on the ensaymada. Curious on what it was - she took a closer look - and guess what she discovered? A tiny cockroach! It was embedded on top of the ensaymada! She didn't believe what she saw - she even asked the helper to identify what it was. I too was in disbelief! Since the ensaymada was in a sealed plastic - I didn't expect to see a small cockroach there. I think that it was only recently that Red Ribbon packaged their ensaymadas in a sealed plastic - maybe to maintain that their items are 'fresh'. But upon seeing this - I don't think it's fresh! How on earth did that cockroach get embedded on the ensaymada? Maybe it climbed up there? Pre-baking, during baking, post-baking? Your guess is as good as mine.

I honestly wouldn't notice the cockroach. I would just have let it pass and assume that it was burned cheese! But when you look closely - the antenna was also there! Yikes!

My mom called Red Ribbon Libis to report - and she was told to go to the branch where she got it from and exhange it for a new one. There were no apologies given. The Red Ribbon staff in Libis said that they will still have to take it to their laboratory and have it tested. Why do they need to test it for, when if fact it is right there - seen by the naked eye!? It's impossible that someone just put it in on purpose since it's sealed right? We had no way to contact the Hemady Branch because their telephone was under repair.

Don't get me wrong - it's not that I dislike Red Ribbon - in fact I love the establishment because of their Mango Cream Pie! It's just that 'nawalan ako ng gana' because of their unsympathetic response to my mom's report. Anyhoo - to prove this story - here are some images of the ensaymanda. See for yourselves.

There's a BEST BEFORE code printed on the wrapper it s BB 101406.

1:30PM - My mom decided to have the driver go to the Red Ribbon Hemady Branch to report and show the staff the ensaymada with cockroach. Our driver was instructed to call us when he arrives in Red Ribbon - after 15 minutes - the area manager names Miss Rose called my mom and apologized - she said 'Ma'am nahihiya po ako sa inyo!' She then told my mom that the ensaymada with the cockroach will be sent to their laboratory for testing so that they can determine what happened. Since the best before date is on October 14, 2006 - the ensaymada should still be fresh. Before ending their conversation - Miss Rose offered my mom a whole cake - for the hassle and stress of the cockroach embedded ensaymada.
2:00PM - We received the cake that was gifted us.

In the end - at least bumawi sila big time! Its just that now, I will think twice before munching on anything. I will closely inspect the food before putting it in my mouth. Lesson learned. I did NOT write this to bash nor promote any enstablishment, I am merely sharing our experience and to inform the many - to be observant when it comes to the food they eat.

Forgive the date of the ensaymada - I forgot to change the date setting of my digicam. As you can see the Best Before date - it's correct!

Cupcakes by Sonja

Monday, October 09, 2006

I love cup cakes - they make me feel like I'm a kid again. They're so cute and fun to look at! They're simply an irristable treat for me - provided that its vanilla or butter flavored as I am not a fan of chocolates.. (I know, I'm weird - I get it..) I don't know why, but I am very much fascinated with them. I used to bake chocolate cupcakes for my brother's friends - and guessing by their reaction - they loved it!

I've heard of her cupcakes but, I never got the chance to try them. My curiousity increased more as I read entries of the cupcakes from my favorite foodie blogs Ramblings of a Gypsy Soul and Our Awesome Planet. I was quite happy to learn from Anton of Our Awesome Planet that she was opening shop soon at Serendra. When I tried to inquire on Sonja's cupcakes - I was given an invite to the dry run of her shop. Unfortunately, it was on a weekday and I had work! It was just last Saturday that I got the chance to visit her shop and sample a few of her famous cupcakes.

The facade of her shop is catchy and cute! Imagine a cute pink striped store! It looked so much like a candy store! Actually, it looks a lot like a New York-ish kind of cake store, one you'd happen to see in movies or in the Lifestyle Channel's the Food Network! Upon entering the store, I was welcomed by 3 smiley faces - unfortunately, they were still closed as they still had to bake most of their products. But since I was not in a rush, I asked if I could order ahead and have the cup cakes picked up later in the afternoon, one of the girls agreed to help me out. I decided to get the dozen box that consisted of a mix of Red Velvet Vixen, Vanilla Surprise, Valrhona Flourless Cupcake, Chocolate Surprise, and the Bunny Huggers. I was very excited to sample thes cupcakes - but I had to wait.

After our lunch at Polu Kai, my friend Gracie and I proceeded to Sonja's shop to pick up my order. Upon entering - I was suprised that the store had so little cupcakes on display! But I was told that most of them were already sold - good thing I ordered ahead of time. Thank goodness!! Hehehe..

The verdict? I love them! I love the Vanilla Surprise and the Red Velvet Vixen! I had to contain myself and not eat them while in the car! When I got home, I took pictures first (yes, I know!) and then proceeded to try the Vanilla Suprise with the light blue frosting - I love the texture of the cup cake and the frosting was really delicious! Before going out to dinner - I just had to sample the Red Velvet Vixen. As I was not fond of chocolates (I hate them, remember?) I was dreading the taste of chocolate - good thing - I wasn't able to taste any chocolate! Yehey! I like the consistency of the redness of the cupcake and the frosting as well! The combination is really great, not only was it eye candy - it tasted heavenly! I had my Panget sample the Red Velvet and even if he had sipon (colds) he loved it!

I can't wait to visit Serendra again soon!!

My lunch date with Gracie..

Sunday, October 08, 2006

Last Saturday, I had lunch with my good friend Gracie. She just finished taking this year's bar and now, she's just waiting for the results on April next year. I couldn't remember the last time I saw her, but according to her - when she last saw me, my hair was still short. My, my that seemed ages ago. If I remember correctly - I decided to grow my hair last October 2004! Has it been that long?

When I picked her up - she didn't look any different! You see, Gracie and I became friends last 2001. It was during a US trip that we finally met up and began talking. Acutally, I was forced in a situation I couldn't get out of. But good thing was that - I met a friend who's very dear to me until now. I can still remember that day clearly - as if it happened just yesterday. After that trip, Gracie became a 'best friend' we've sort of gone through a lot in that short span of time. And though we've just been friends for 5 years - it seems like I've known her forever!!:)

I had a great time catching up with her. What's funny is that the kwento's that have not been shared - well, unfortunately - I've forgotten them! It's been that long ago, I know - I should've kept tabs of the kwentos! Hahaha..

The Class by David Crane

I know it's not just me - but I think I can safely say that there are a lot of people who miss watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and secretly hope that they get back together and continue where they left off. I know I'm not alone when I say that I quote dialogues from F.R.I.E.N.D.S. - and that when I tell some of mine - they either look at me like I'm crazy - or look at me and agree with me. I really miss the whole Central Perk gang.

A few months ago, I came across something on the internet it was a rumor that F.R.I.E.N.D.S. creator David Crane is cooking up a new show that is similar to F.R.I.E.N.D.S. I searched and searched until I found this show - last month.

You wouldn't know how happy I was when I learned that the rumor was really true. I patiently waited and hoped to watch the tidbits of the pilot in - well, what do you know right? Being a fan of US hit tv series, I know for a fact that the fall season means that old shows are coming back - and so I took the chance to search for the pilot of 'The Class' true enough - somebody uploaded it.

I just finished watching the first two episodes and the verdict? I liked it. Although there were too many characters (there are 8 of them) it was still very much entertaining. The humor kind of reminds me of Chandler Bing (my ultimate favorite F.R.I.E.N.D.S. character) - it's times like these that I thank whoever created youtube. (Glod Bless you, whoever you are!)

Here are the links to the 2 episodes. I hope you guys enjoy them as much as I did. Watching it made me laugh and smile and miss F.R.I.E.N.D.S. - thank god that once in our lifetime for 10 years - there was F.R.I.E.N.D.S. to share with us their stories... :)

Yoga - Bikram Yoga in QC

What do Madonna, Cristy Turlington, Reese Witherspoon - have in common? YOGA - they've all practiced yoga sometime - to tone their muscles or to lose weight. Well, since I have this endless quest to lose weight - I will finally brave and try yoga for the first time next Tuesday. Next Tuesday will be the opening of the Bikram Yoga center in Quezon City. FInally! A Yoga studio near me!!

I am very much excited and at the same time nervous. Nervous why? Well, the studio is kind of heated thus - I fear I might faint - but not to worry as I will get my 8 glasses of water a day, as suggested by the one I spoke to at the Makati head office.

I was wondering though - what will be the effects? I have yet to meet a person who's a yoga follower. All the info I know are from 'narinig ko' and 'nabasa ko' from the internet to magazines. Wish me luck!! (again...)

a Del Monte Fruit Cocktail tale..

Tuesday, October 03, 2006

Just a few minutes ago, the helper came in the office and informed me and my mom that 4 out of the 5 cans of the Del Monte Fruit Cocktail that we were gifted with had both its ends pop out. I asked her to check the expiry date and she told us that it was going to expire on March 16, 2007. That's about 6 months from now! I was shocked to see the cans, when she presented them to me. After that conversation, I immediately called Del Monte Philippines - and I spoke to a Miss Je Zaguirre - she was very polite and eager to help. She asked me first if the product was a 'Fiesta' fruit cokctail and when I replied 'No' She answered me in a very nice way, unfortunately as she said 'It's not a locally made product therefore as much I want to help you, I can't' But good thing - she gave me the number of another distributor - Macondre. I will contact them tomorrow as it already late. I am attaching some images of the Del Monte Fruit Cocktail cans - all 4 had both ends popping out.

What could be the cause?

Well, your guess is as good as mine..

Lost for words?

Wednesday, September 27, 2006

I've been wanting to post an entry since this morning - but it seems that I'm at a loss for words right now. Somehow, I could't decided what to write about. My mind is currently swimming in circles - there is no certain direction, nothing to go forward with.

This is the first time in a long time. People who know me will not believe this - but truly - my train of though - nada.......

Maybe this is the result of watching too much Tv for the past 5 days.

Enough TV for the week? Nah! After I finish the 3rd season of my current fave TV show - maybe a hiatus for about a week. Maybe.

By the way... Cubie- thanks so much for the hand butter and lip butter. I LOVE THEM!! They're really super nice!! The hand butter - I actually used it on my dry heels!! Thanks for being so sweet Cubie!!

Josh Duhamel - my new TV crush

Tuesday, September 26, 2006

Imagine speaking to him - face to face. Won't your knees go weak instantly? Couple it with this smile, dammit! He's so dreamy!!

This begets too much watching Las Vegas.

Dreamy huh?!

The last TV crush that I had was back in the days where That's Entertainment was still showing. Do not ask me who - because for sure I will never disclose it!!

Just look at him smiling - well, yeah - that's all I can think about as of the moment.

To my Panget - don't get mad - crush lang ito ah.. Crush... :)

The Class

Got this from the site:

In this CBS comedy created by David Crane (Friends), and Jeffrey Klarik (Mad About You), a group of twenty-somethings who were third-grade classmates are reunited at a surprise party 20 years later. What will happen when they find out what each other's lives are like now?

The cast includes Jason Ritter as Ethan Haas, who planned the reunion of his fellow classmates, and who is crazy about his fiancé; Heather Goldenhersh as Lina Warbler, who truly believes in love, although she doesn't have that much luck in it; Lizzy Caplan as Kat Warbler, Lina's twin-sister, a cynical and sarcastical person; Jon Bernthal as Duncan Carmello, who still lives with his mother (Julie Halston); Sean Maguire as Kyle Lendo, a man that every girl had a crush during high school, but now he is living with his boyfriend Aaron. Jesse Tyler Ferguson portraits Richie, a unhappy man who's life hasn't treated him well since high school. Lucy Punch plays Holly Ellenbogen, a married woman who wants to have her revenge on Kyle. She's married to Perry Pearl (Sam Harris). Andrea Anders plays Nicole Allen, Yonk Allen's (David keith) trophy wife, who was once in love with Duncan.

Montecito: Resort & Casino, Las Vegas

Monday, September 25, 2006

When I first saw this show, I thought that the Montecito Resort & Casino was a real casino. I thought maybe it was new and it just recently started its operations. But when I searched it on the internet - my search came empty handed. No such casino exists!

When I visited Metrowalk last Friday, my Panget and I went to our friend Imma's suki for DVD's and while rummaging through her stacks of DVDs - I found the season 1-3 of Las Vegas (the series). At first, I was skeptical - but when I learned of the price of each DVD - I immediately handed it to Wheng (the nice lady who owns the stall) and I was really excited to watch it. As my Panget told me when we got to the car - 'May isang taong hindi na matutulog!' 'Someone's going to be up all night!' And he got it right - because I couldn't sleep!! I was hooked on watching it episode after episode. And last night - at about 2:00am I finished the first season's finale - and to top it off, I saw at least 3 more episodes of the 2nd season! Yes, I am hooked on this show and tonight after gym - I will go and watch this till the wee hours of the night!

The cast is headed by the veteran James Caan - Mr. Sonny Corleone himself! It was like going back to his roots! Sans too much drama - he was also funny in some of his movies! Despite age - Jimmy Caan exudes the same passion in acting - like when he was younger! He's still very very good!

I first saw Josh Duhamel in the movie 'Win a Date with Tad Hamilton' co-starring Kate Bosworth and Topher Grace( I love him too!) To be honest, I never liked Josh Duhamel - but after watching the first season- he grows on you - now I find him irrisistingly adorable!! A sudden change huh?! Well, attribute it to finishing 1 whole season in just 2 days! Haha!! Well, he's really bagay/'fit' with the role - I can't imagine someone else who'll fit perfectly!

I just looooooove looking at them!!
The look really really really good together..

Eye Opener..

Thursday, September 21, 2006

I never really realized how young I was amidst my Panget's group. Well, you see last night, we had a baby shower dinner for my Panget's college friend Tricia. Its her second pregnancy and her he's having another a girl (again). We had dinner at Gulliver's in Quezon Avenue - unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of our meals - they tasted fantastic by the way.

During the dinner, my Panget's friends (which were all girls) got to talk - they were talking about their kids, pre-school, giving birth and a lot more 'mommy' topics. All of them gave their respective opinions on each topic, while I was just sitting there intenly listening to them. The topics ranged from being pregnant, taking care of sick kids, yaya's day off, ob-gyn's, hospitals to give birth in, pediatricians, good pre-schools, good schools, entrance tests and more.

It was just then that I realized - I was in a group that has matured about 3 levels above me. They were talking sense to one another - while I on the other hand, had an eyebrow raised! I was telling my Panget that I've never been involved in a group conversation wherein I was only listening and I couldn't give inputs! There were even instances wherein I has my mouth open for about 10 seconds because I was shocked! I never thought pre-school tuition was that high?! Whoa!

It was 4 years ago that I met all of them:
- Barbs & Coco were still trying to conceive, now Hans is already turning 3 this month
- Eleanor & Jerome just got married, now they have a 1 year old daughter, Justine
- Tricia & Adrian had a cutie daughter Julia, now Tricia is carrying their 2nd daughter
- Julie & Paul were still dating then, now they're married and just recently celebrated the 1st birthday of their daughter Katie
- Grace & Francis were still based here in Manila, now they're in New Zeland and Grace is 5months pregnant.

Time flies huh?!

Baby BOOM!!

Wednesday, September 20, 2006

Congratulations to my 2 friends who are pregnant..

May you be blessed with healthy and ultra cute babies!! :)

Can't wait to see them!! :)

The Twilight Zone

Tuesday, September 19, 2006

"You're travelling through another dimension, a dimension not only of sight and sound but of mind; a journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's the signpost up ahead - your next stop, the Twilight Zone!"

I have been a fan of this series since I was little! I could still remember bits and pieces of the show! There was this certain epsiode where a mannequin was invilved and eventually the lead of that episode became a mannequin in the end as well. During my lastest visit to Metrowalk - I was able to find the Season 1 of the 2002's revival of the series. I was eagerly making pigil to get it, but what won was the fact that I loved the show and it was not super expensive. When I got home, I immediately watched a couple of episodes. And just last night - I was done watching all 43 episodes.. and what can I say - Rod Serling - I am kowtowing now - you are indeed beyond brilliant!

How I wish I can still find the 50's black & white episodes plus the 80's ones...

The Wicker Man - such a waste of time..

Monday, September 18, 2006

Saw this last night - gosh, what the hell was it all about? I didn't get it at all. I had to have the SIL of my Panget explain it to me so I would understand the movie. I was wondering though - since it was a Nic Cage movie with appearances of Aaron Eckhart, James Franco, Lee Lee Sobeiski and Ellen Burstyn - I thought the movie was doing to be good. Unfortunately - it wasn't. It was a really bad movie - I guess because I really didn't get what the movie was all about!

But to save the night from disaster - we headed to Mien San for dinner. It's located along Gilmore Avenue/Ortigas Avenue just right after Santolan Road. They serve authentic (daw) Taiwanese cuisine. Their noodle soups, dry noodle, and dumplings are really good! It's also easy on the budgegt. A full meal for 3 people will cost you roughly P480.00. As my mom would say in fookien 'Wu siok, wu kiok!' (cheap yet a good deal)

My Panget's SE P990i

SE P990i

I wasn't allowed to post the pictures and an entry last Monday because my Panget has still not given a press release to his friends that he already owns the new (and highly coveted) Sony Ericsson P990i. Yes, it was bought on impulse, and yes - I did not convince him otherwise. My Panget has been waiting for this phone more than a year now. He has been raving all about it since gawd knows when! And when finally - it arrived, he was all smiles and getting impulsive as the days passed. He always challenged on getting it right away, and foturnately - he was able to control himself. But last Sunday - it was different - we visited the Globe shop in Podium and when we asked if they had the phone on stock - well, yes they did - all hell broke loose and the rest? Well, the rest was history.

I insisted to take this picture..

Have fun Panget! Enjoy your new phone! :)

Definitely seeing RED!

Tuesday, September 12, 2006

This is my first attempt in capturing food images.
forgive the amateur-ness as they were taken by my SE K750i

Chilean Seabass

Black Cod

Mango Cheesecake

I was invited by my friend to have lunch in RED at the Makati Shangri-La. It was quite weird since I am familiar with the hotel, I never got the chance to sample the dishes in the said restaurant. To be honest, I've never heard of anyone rave on this restaurant, but since it looked promising - I kept an open mind. The bread smelled heavenly - it had bacon bits and some nuts! The butter and tomato spread were great because they went away with the oridnary butter. We were then served with the appetizers, and guess what we had! Foie Gras Creme Brulee - it was fan-tastic! Absolutely, delicious. I couldn't even find the words to describe it - it was THAT good! Wow! (I seldom say that wow, wow!) The plating was eye catching and at the same time practical. They were served in long narrow plates which you can put in the center of the table - to share with your friends.

The Seabass and the Black Cod were all delicious! I never thought you could cook cod they way they did!! :) The concept was brilliant and so was the taste!! We were able to meet the executive chef and he was telling us that he had a free hand at changing the menu - good huh?! He seemed very nice, cheery, sincere and very passionate with food. That's definitely a good trait for a chef!

I will definitely go back!! (I hope.. Soon!)
